According to a write up in the nat. history museums gemstone and mineral section...............2/3 of the diamonds mined are used for industrial purposes........only a third for jewelry..............the only two things..........that can cut a diamond are another diamond........and a laser.......


    1. Industrial diamonds are mostly used in cutting, grinding, drilling and polishing procedures. Here, hardness and heat conductivity characteristics are the qualities being purchased. Size and other measures of quality relevant to gemstones are not important.
