“From Dusk till Dawn” was written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Robert Rodriguez, two filmmakers whose friendship has resulted in some fascinating collaborations. For this film, we’re made to think it’s a crime story before it does a 180 and turns into a horror movie filled with bloodsucking vampires. 15. Choreography

Salma Hayek did not have a choreographer for her dance scene. Director Robert Rodriguez told her to feel the music and dance to it however she wanted. He would later use this same tactic with Jessica Alba in “Sin City.”
14. Quentin Tarantino Works on His Acting

Writer-actor Quentin Tarantino was originally set to direct the movie, but he decided not to so he could work on his role as Richard Gecko.

The food Seth (George Clooney) brings back to the hotel is from Big Kahuna Burger, the fast food joint referenced by Samuel L. Jackson and Frank Whaley in “Pulp Fiction.”

Robert Kurtzman, the makeup artist who worked on the ear-slicing scene in “Reservoir Dogs,” asked Quentin Tarantino to write a screenplay based on his story “From Dusk till Dawn.” Tarantino offered Kurtzman the chance to direct this film, but he couldn’t commit to it, so QT got Robert Rodriguez to come aboard as the director.

10. Satánico Pandemonium

Quentin Tarantino named Salma Hayek’s character “Satánico Pandemonium” after a 1975 Mexican horror movie of the same name. Tarantino had seen the film on a shelf at the video store where he once worked. The character was originally called “Blonde Death,” but that name didn’t make sense once Hayek was cast.

Greg Nicotero was the makeup supervisor for this film and currently works on the popular TV series “The Walking Dead.” He also has a cameo in this movie as the long haired biker that Tom Savini steals the beer from.

In Cheech Marin’s scene as the Customs Agent, the name on his badge is “Oscar Marin,” which is the name of Cheech’s real-life father. Oscar Marin was also an LAPD officer.

6. Why'd It Have to Be Snakes?

Salma Hayek spent two months with therapists to overcome her real fear of snakes so she could be in the movie. When she originally read the script, Hayek turned down the role. Rodriguez then lied to her, saying Madonna was ready to take the part, which made Hayek rethink her decision.

This is the first appearance of Earl McGraw, played by Michael Parks, who became a recurring character in Rodriguez and Tarantino's works. He would appear later in 'Kill Bill', 'Planet Terror' and 'Death Proof'.
