I met a Jewish man......who had been recruited by the Baltimore Oriels as a pitcher......but b/c he was drafted into the American participation in the Vietnamese civil war he never played MLB............he spent a long time in the US Navy........and he played all Navy or during his stint in the Navy....i don't remember exactly......what i do remember is he said he played a lot in the Caribbean..............like Med floats.....floats in the Caribbean.......they go from port to port, i met him at GEICO.......this was like the 1960s or early 1970s or so.....i asked him where in the Caribbean had the best baseball players.......he told me Haiti......

What struck me as odd about that.............was that i had a very good friend from Haiti........who left in like the 1950s.......and soccer was their dominant sport.............he attributed it to Brazil.................i think some Brazilians went there to start their leagues, i am not sure...... a side story.......then he told me a lot of Dominicans............the East side, the bigger side of the island they share are actually Haitians........b/c of its poverty and tumultuous political history....go there.............many try to make the USA........but the DR is often a choice.......
