Why do we not use the metric system in the United States?
So it's a very sensible question to ask why Americans don't convert. Fortunately, this isn't too hard to look up. There is a technical sense in which we do use the metric system. All US units are defined in terms of metric ones, so that for example one inch is defined to be exactly 2.54 centimeters.
