Why it CracklesAn utterly ridiculous plot made irrelevant by astonishing dance choreography and a surprisingly heavyweight cast.

DescriptionEight years after his defection to the West, legendary Russian dancer Nikolai "Kolya" Rodchenko (Mikhail Baryshnikov) is flying from London to Tokyo when his plane is forced to land in Siberia. He is soon informed by KGB Colonel Chaiko (Jerzy Skolimowski) that he is considered a criminal. Raymond (Gregory Hines) is an American dancer who several years earlier fled to Russia in a moral protest against America's involvement in Vietnam. Having fallen out of favor with the Soviet authorities and relegated to performing in the provinces, Raymond is given a chance at redemption when he and his wife, Darya (Isabella Rossellini), are assigned to convince Kolya to remain in Russia. Kolya tentatively agrees and is reunited with his former partner and lover, Galina (Helen Mirren), whose courage leads to a daring escape plan in which Raymond, Darya and Galina each play a role.
