On the legend of the map on the 2nd floor of the nat. portrait gallery...........the 3rd built fed. building here in DC.........originally the us patent office............and one of only two buildings that the British did not burn when King George the 3rd got his revenge for the coup the colonists pulled, the other being the commandant of the Marine Corps house at 8th and I in SE............it has two places in DC's exact longitude and latitude........the topographical map is dated 1862..........it lists both the national observatory and the dome of the US Capital.............but why those two?
