MILAN — Team USA captured the gold medal of the team event at the 2026 Winter Olympics after Ilia Malinin delivered a must-win free skate Sunday, breaking a tie with Japan and propelling the Americans to repeat as Olympic champions with 69 points.

Japan earned silver (68 points), and Italy won bronze (60 points).

The team event debuted at the 2014 Winter Games, and this year’s competition was the closest the field has ever been.
