On a personal note and even odder, after being fired from UMD, the coach ends up at JMU. I saw him in D hall, his son Chuck came to my Psychology 102 class to give a talk about sports psychology..my Uncle Steve Maloney said Lefty owned/owns a house in Dewey Beach, DE...as Steve and Diane would come to beach every now and then and take Dave and i places..
Charles "Lefty" Driesell was a legendary men's basketball coach at James Madison University (JMU) from 1988-1997, leading the Dukes to significant success, including the 1994 NCAA Tournament and five straight CAA regular season titles, before leaving for Georgia State; he's known for building programs and being the only coach with 100+ wins at four different schools (Davidson, Maryland, JMU, GSU) and was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame.
His Time at JMU (1988-1997)
- Record: 159-111 overall, with multiple 20-win seasons.
- Postseason: Took JMU to the NCAA Tournament (1994) and NIT (1990-93).
- Accolades: Won CAA Coach of the Year twice and led the Dukes to a CAA Tournament Championship in 1994
