Hungary beat West Germany 8-3 in the group stage of the 1954 World Cup, but West Germany famously won the final 3-2, an upset known as the "Miracle of Bern," coming back from a 2-0 deficit in the rain, with Helmut Rahn scoring the winner. The group stage match was a rout, but the final saw the legendary Hungarian "Golden Team" defeated by a resilient German side playing in heavy rain, which favored them and led to "Fritz Walter Weather".
