In addition, just last weekend, Somalian referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan – considered one of Africa’s top officials – was refused entry at the border in Miami due to “vetting concerns”, raising serious questions of the US’ Customs and Border Protection (CBP), as well as Fifa.
Yet they’re not the only people impacted, from players and executives to officials and fans. The latest on Friday is the head of the Palestinian Football Association still awaiting permission to enter the United States from Mexico City.
Here’s a list of all the people impacted by the United States’ strict border requirements.
Palestine football chief
On Friday, Palestine’s football chief, Jibril Rajoub, revealed that he is still awaiting permission to enter the United States and is in Mexico City in the meantime.
Despite being accredited, Mr Rajoub - who is the head of the Palestinian Football Association - is among several international football officials who have been denied US visas or are still awaiting their approval.
