There are laws about it, but like a lot of stuff, in our country at least, laws depend on what state you are in.  God's law is different, similar in many circumstances, different in others.  Adults are supposed to protect the young, let them settle it, work it out.  He could have just gotten an adult or multiple adults, age does matter.  I heard in Florida there is a stand your ground law but in Texas there is not.
