We sold kites in our Gingerbread Square mall, now the Pines restaurant, Dave and I would walk to school, he was very much into books, very usually by himself, like the author kid into man in the "Kite Runner", my grandparents had been to Morocco and Turkey, Pop had a backgammon set he had got in Istanbul, our cousins lived in Amman, we had a connection to the Middle East. I was more like the kite runner kid, outgoing, friendly, athletic.
Richie would give me free backlava, at the Camels' Hump restaurant in the ocean block of Baltimore ave, where our mall was. Richie said he had served in the Syrian army, was impressed that i was in the Marines.
And guess what, like in the movie, we would cross a wooden bridge, no longer there in 19971, replaced by a concrete one
Painted turtles would rise up to get air, red winged black birds would be in the area, whole flocks of Canadian geese would be around
The original wooden bridge crossing Silver Lake in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware (19971) was built in 1928. It was subsequently replaced by a concrete bridge in 1938. Today, the "Turtle Bridge"—a pedestrian footbridge in the same area connecting a tot lot to Rehoboth Elementary School—serves as a popular local landmark
