The Cathedral itself is gorgeous..............i visited it with my daughter and 2nd wife......when a thunderstorm came out of nowhere........and the electricity for the entire city went out.....save for the cathedral.......my daughter was scared of those types of storms......so i drove back to the cathedral and asked them if i could take refuge there until the storm subsided......this was in like 2010 or so..................also........the Grotto is.......with all kinds of virgins........from Vietnam to Brazil...........just south of Emmitsburg..........

Emmitsburg is the home of Mount St. Mary's University. The town has two Catholic pilgrimage sites: the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, which is on the campus of Mount St. Mary's, and the Basilica and National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, who was the first native born United States citizen to be canonized as a saint.[4] The Seton Shrine is one of the top eight Catholic pilgrimage destinations in the United States[5]
