Melania Trump (/məˈlɑːniə/; born Melanija Knavs[1] [mɛˈlaːnija ˈknaːu̯s], April 26, 1970; Germanised to Melania Knauss[2]) is the current First Lady of the United States. Before marrying future President Donald Trump in 2005, she worked as a fashion model; by 2016 she considered herself a "full-time mom".[3] She was born in the city of Novo Mesto in Slovenia, then known as the Socialist Republic of Slovenia within Yugoslavia. She became a permanent resident of the United States in 2001, and obtained U.S. citizenship in 2006.
Trump is the first naturalized U.S. citizen to become First Lady, and the second First Lady born overseas after Louisa Adams, who was born in London to an American father.[4]
