Im both part Blackfoot and Cherokee, honoring my ancestors.....like Mexico's day of the dead, we
Americans lag behind in that respect, in Oriental culture, ancestor worship is held in high esteem.....it is imp. to know where we come from, without them, we would not be here...

The term "Blackfoot" refers to a group of Indigenous peoples, officially known as the Blackfoot Confederacy or Niitsitapi, who historically inhabited the Northern Plains of North AmericaTheir culture revolved around bison hunting, and they were known for their military power, living in portable tipis. The Confederacy is composed of several bands, including the Kainai (Blood), Piikani, and Siksika.

Anthropologists believe the Blackfoot people migrated from the northeastern woodlands to the Great Plains.

They were traditionally nomadic, following herds of bison, which were central to their way of life for food, clothing, and shelter.

The Blackfoot Confederacy is made up of linguistically related bands, such as the Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika, each with its own government.

A major religious ceremony for the Blackfoot was the Sun Dance.
  • Warrior culture:
They were known for their military prowess and aggression on the northwestern Plains.
  • Traditional housing:
They lived in portable, cone-shaped tipis made from a wooden frame and bison hides.
Modern-day
  • Reservation land: Today, Blackfoot reservation lands are located in Montana (U.S.) and southern Alberta (Canada).
  • Challenges: The traditional way of life was severely impacted by the near-elimination of the bison population and the introduction of diseases and conflict by European settlers.
  • Government: The modern Blackfeet Nation has a governing body on the reservation.
