Now..............look at the strategic position of Columbia...........................back in the 1500s, 1600s, 1700s, and 1800s............without airplanes.............the sea was the only way to get back to Europe............and the trip back to Western Europe across the Pacific ocean is a loooooooooong way indeed....................and esp. without the Suez canal................u would have had to go around Africa......
