They are digging for stuff for one thing..............archaeology...now think Jamaica.............look at how Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba.......are in a direct line of the most logical sea routes back to Western Europe................and if u were a pirate..............where would u hide?  Haiti......on its west side...........the one facing a natural sea route...................has a bay.......Pirates cove.
