he real case, widely known as the Amanda Knox case, involved a primary suspect, American student Amanda Knox, and her Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, who were initially convicted, then acquitted. A third individual, Rudy Guede, a man from the Ivory Coast, was also arrested, tried separately, and ultimately convicted of the murder and sexual assault of Meredith Kercher. 

In the film, the protagonist, a filmmaker, is working on a movie about the murder and at one point questions if the murderer was a "black barman" or another Black man, as the accused in the fictionalized version of the case claim. This reflects the real-world scenario where Rudy Guede was involved, and the defense for Knox and Sollecito suggested he was the sole killer. Guede was found guilty and served a prison sentence, while Knox and Sollecito were definitively acquitted by Italy's highest court.
