My Uncle Gary and others did work on this, Adri, as i try to trace our roots, extended family, 1/2 brothers and sisters, a good bit spread out all of our family.  From Grandma Sandy's dad, Pop, via all the males, there was a John Jr, supposedly an uncle, Stephen is the son we are directly linked to.

1st ancestor Ruddell, the male line, where he was from in Europe.  Many people in our own family say we are Irish - German - Cherokee.  He passed close to where DJ Barker lived, again, Pop told me that at one time the Barkers owned an entire bend of the river, Uncle DJ's house in Woodstock was right on it.  The Shenandoah river, also a valley.  Karma they were to meet, and marry, here in DC in the 1930s.

John Ruddell Sr was born before 24 November 1696, in Bishop's Cannings, Wiltshire, England. He married Mary Cook in 1715, in Chester, Pennsylvania, British Colonial America. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 29 May 1781, in Smith Creek, Shenandoah, Virginia, United States, and was buried in Fayette, Pennsylvania, United States.
