Early life

Buffon was born in Carrara, Tuscany. His father was of Friulian origin, from Latisana.[3][4] He was born into a sporting family: his mother Maria Stella Masocco was a three time Italian champion in shot put and discus throw,[5] his uncle Dante Masocco was a basketball player who played in the Serie A1, his father Adriano also practiced shot put,[5] and his elder sisters Guendalina and Veronica Buffon [it] were professional volleyball players.[5] He is also the second cousin twice removed of football goalkeeper Lorenzo Buffon
